Mike Starr
Artist Image Growing up in Cairns Far North Queensland Mike’s love for music began at the age of 10 where he began playing the Clarinet. From there he quickly discovered Jazz and Blues and took on the Tenor Saxophone. After relentless practice and graduating high School Michael joined the Royal Australian Navy Band based in Melbourne. This saw Michael utilise his skill in playing the various Saxophones and Clarinet in musical settings ranging from Rock, Jazz, Classical to Military whilst touring large parts of Australia and the world. Michael was fortunate enough to perform at many high profile events such as ANZAC day celebrations in Turkey, and provide on field pre-game entertainment to the 2001 AFL Grand Final at the MCG. Michael also played alongside well known musicians and celebrities such as James and John Morrison, Blaine Whitaker and Darryl Somers.

After serving in the R.A.N Michael studied at QUT in Brisbane in the field of Business however also performed as a freelance musician with a variety of musical groups. Michael was the Lead Reed chair and on stage performer for the hit musical Dirty Dancing during its Brisbane Tour. Michael has also worked as a Woodwind instrumentalist teacher at a Brisbane based Secondary College. Michael’s musical influences stem from artists such as Michael Brecker, David Sandborn and Quincy Jones which has evolved into his love is for Jazz/Funk and Soul music
